Archiving is not working if MAPI is set to communicate with the Exchange server

Introduction

This troubleshooting article addresses an issue where archiving jobs fail to run correctly when the Use MAPI to communicate with Exchange Server option is enabled. It describes the symptoms of the problem, how to verify the affected components, and how to resolve the issue by manually creating the required Outlook profile.

Problem

When the Use MAPI to communicate with Exchange Server option is used, archiving does not work. Errors similar to the following appear in the logs:

Exception 80040111 (null) Failed to connect to admin mailbox. >> Exception 80040111 Failed to open default message store. 80040111 MAPI_E_LOGON_FAILED.

Solution

Verify the service account and connector

Before retrying the job, check the following:

  • Log on to Windows with the service account (superuser).
  • Start Outlook with the service account.
  • Check the CGMAPIConnector service identity — it must be running under the service account.
  • Start the CGMAPIConnector service and confirm that it starts without error.

Once these checks are complete, try running the job again. This should automatically create an Outlook profile using the template _<ExchangeServerName>, where <ExchangeServerName> corresponds to the name of the Exchange Server as seen in the address book.

Create the profile manually

If the profile is not created automatically, it means that contentACCESS is not able to log on with the superuser account at all. In this case, the profile must be created manually:

  1. Find your mailbox in the address book.
  2. Identify the Exchange server to which the mailbox belongs (for example, TECHEX2K10).
  3. Log on to Windows with the superuser account and create a new Outlook profile.
  4. Name the profile _TECHEX2K10 (using the corresponding Exchange server name).
  5. Configure the profile with the superuser account as the primary mailbox.
  6. Turn off cached mode.
  7. Start Outlook using the profile.
  8. Close Outlook.

Note: You need to repeat these steps for each Exchange Server present in your address book.

Restart the connector and retry the job

If the manual profile creation works, restart the CGMAPIConnector service and start the job again. The job should now reuse the existing profile.

Note: The profile is not deleted by contentACCESS.
