How to request access to Microsoft Protected API

Introduction​

Access to Microsoft Protected APIs is required when contentACCESS connects to Microsoft Teams using a configured application (application access). This page explains the previous request process, the current requirements following Microsoft's policy change, and the steps needed to authorize an application to access Microsoft Graph.

Previous request process​

In the past, to get application access (where contentACCESS connects to Microsoft Teams using a configured application), you needed to request access to Microsoft Protected API. To request access to these protected APIs, you had to complete a request form with specific fields such as your email address, publisher and application name, application ID, etc.

Note: Starting May 18, 2023, the online form and the protected API approval process are no longer needed. You can immediately call the protected APIs as long as the requirements for accessing without a user are met.

Configure application access​

For an application to get authorization and access to Microsoft Graph using client credentials, follow these steps:

  1. Register the app with Azure ID.
  2. Configure Microsoft Graph application permissions on the app.
  3. Request administrator consent.
  4. Request an access token.
  5. Call Microsoft Graph using the access token.

Delegated access​
