File Archive

Introduction

File Archive jobs allow administrators to archive data located either in local file systems or on network shares (UNC paths). This page explains how File Archive jobs work, how retention and storage assignment are handled, and how archived files can be accessed or restored.

How File Archive works

File Archive jobs archive documents from local file systems or network shares (UNC paths). The time period for which archived documents remain available is defined through retention categories.

The File Archive database and storage are always assigned to a root folder, as described in the File Archive settings chapter. This prevents the same root folder from being archived to multiple databases or storages, which would otherwise cause issues when retrieving files.

Accessing archived files

Archived files can be viewed in either of the following interfaces:

It is also possible to restore archived files from shortcuts, or to recover them if the original file was deleted from the file system.
