Teams compliance archive job
Introduction
The Teams compliance archive job is a backup solution seamlessly integrated with contentACCESS. It serves as a comprehensive content preservation tool designed specifically for archiving deleted messages (and deleted channels) and their content within Microsoft Teams.
This job can retrieve messages deleted by users from the Teams client up to 21 days from the time of deletion, using the integration of Teams Export APIs. This page explains how to add and configure a Teams compliance archive job, including its scheduling, database, storage, retention, address book, notification, and resource settings, and lists the currently known limitations of the job.
Important: Teams archive and Teams chat archive jobs are not able to archive conversations with external participants coming from a different Microsoft Entra tenant. We recommend using the Teams compliance archive job for processing conversations with external participants.
For more information about exporting content with the Microsoft Teams Export APIs, refer to the Microsoft documentation. For more information about how to enable metered APIs and services in Microsoft Graph, refer to this article.
Add a new job
To configure a new Teams compliance archive job, navigate to Teams Archive -> Archive -> Jobs, then click +new.

- In the Add new job instance dialog, select Teams compliance archive from the Available jobs dropdown list.
- Select the node where the job will run using the Run on node option.
- Enter a Display name for the job.
- Click Add.

If you want to configure the job immediately, click OK in the pop-up window, and the job configuration page opens right away. Otherwise, the configuration page remains accessible at any time using the Configure option in the job's context menu.

Note: The Teams compliance archive job does not use report mode or filtering settings; instead, it runs immediately in real-time mode upon initiation.
Configure the job
On the job's configuration page, go through the following sections.
Scheduling settings
Select the running time(s) of the Teams compliance archive job. You can either select an existing scheduler from the list or create a new one using the create new … option from the dropdown list. For more information about setting up schedulers, refer to the Schedules page.
Database settings
Select an already configured connection from the dropdown list. This is where the metadata will be stored. In this example, the database named "SKE" is configured for the archived Teams data. For more information about setting up database connections, refer to the Databases page.
Storage settings
Choose an already configured storage from the dropdown list. The processed binaries will be stored here. In the screenshot below, the disk-type store "SKE_Storage" is selected. For more information about setting up storages, refer to the Storages page.
Retention settings
Choose an already configured retention time from the dropdown list. Archived objects will be stored in the storage for this period and cannot be deleted during that time. It is highly recommended to select a retention time that complies with the legal requirements of your country. For more information about setting up retentions, refer to the Retentions page.
Address book objects to process
Select the teams and groups that will be processed by the compliance archive job. You can choose all teams or only selected teams from the dropdown menu.
Important: If a team has already been archived using the Teams archive job, it is not possible to re-archive it using the Teams compliance archive job, and vice versa. Attempting to do so results in an error, and the job will not process anything.

If you choose the "selected teams" option, click the
select option, check the desired teams or groups in the Team selection window, and click OK.

Notification settings
Specify when notification emails should be sent from the Teams compliance archive job. You can set this to always, never, or only when an error or warning occurs during the archiving process — for example, if the archiving of one or more items fails, you may receive a notification email about the error. Enter the email address(es) of the recipient(s) in the Recipient list textbox. Notifications should be used if the administrator does not use the System logs feature.
Resource settings
Set the value that determines how many items will be processed simultaneously by the Teams compliance archive job. The recommended value is "2".

Save your changes and start the job manually, or wait until the scheduler starts the job automatically.
Currently known limitations
- Hosted content – such as images or code snippets in a chat message – in deleted messages will not be archived.
- Messages from private and shared channels will not be archived.
- Messages with new reactions (added after the message was archived) will not be archived – the reaction will not be present on the archived message.
- The name of deleted channels cannot be resolved. If a channel was deleted before archiving it, its messages will appear in the archive assigned to a virtual channel called "Deleted channel".
- Hosted content from conversations with external users cannot be archived.
