Mailbox move job

Introduction​

The Mailbox move job allows administrators to move archived mailbox data (archived emails) between stores and databases.

This job is typically used to:

  • Consolidate duplicated archives: If a mailbox was mistakenly archived into two different databases, only the items in the database currently associated with the mailbox (configured in Email Archive ⇒ Archive ⇒ View address book) are accessible. The consolidate option of the Mailbox move job resolves this by moving the items from the incorrect database into the correct one.
  • Move data for dismissed employees: When an employee is dismissed, their archived mailbox data can be moved into another storage or database.
  • Free up storage capacity: If the database or storage currently associated with a mailbox has run out of capacity due to a large volume of archived items, the administrator can move the archived mailbox data to a different location.
  • Move mailboxes across tenants: The Mailbox move job also supports cross-tenant moves. For example, if a company affiliate is closed, its mailboxes (archived emails) can be moved into the database or storage of another affiliate (tenant).
