Services provided by contentACCESS

Introduction

contentACCESS provides a set of core services that together form a complete framework for processing, storing, archiving, and accessing company data. These services include data processing jobs, a manual archiving tool, clustering capabilities, storage providers, and multiple access channels such as the contentACCESS Portal, client and web services, and mobile access.

The following sections describe each of these core services in more detail.

Processing jobs

Processing jobs are responsible for crawling and processing your data. The way data is processed depends on the framework functions available to the job and on further job-specific configurations.

Besides the basic jobs, custom jobs are also available. Key characteristics of processing jobs include:

  • The crawling method is configurable and offers different optimizations for different use cases.
  • Crawled data can be filtered by data age, size, file type, and further specific properties.
  • Each job selects the crawling method, the filtering, and the target storage, focusing solely on data processing.

A typical use case is to archive emails or files into an archive system, or to export data to a file system.

Manual archiving tool

To manually archive emails directly from Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Web Access, contentACCESS uses the contentACCESS MailApp application. With this application, end users can archive old emails easily and retrieve them at any time using shortcuts that replace the original item.

Clustering

Clustering helps optimize your capacities by dividing data processing between multiple servers, allowing contentACCESS to operate more smoothly.

Storages

The contentACCESS framework offers the following storage providers out of the box:

  • Disk store (simple disk storage)
  • inPoint
  • iTernity

Third-party storages can also be implemented.

contentACCESS Portal

The contentACCESS Portal is a web application that runs in browsers, including mobile browsers, providing an easy-to-use interface for accessing processed and stored content.

Its functions include:

  • Folder browsing
  • Item listing
  • Item paging
  • Item filtering
  • Restoring
  • Exporting
  • Searching

Client access and web services

contentACCESS provides an API for:

  • Executing jobs on demand.
  • Manually processing emails using jobs.
  • Unified access to processed elements.

Mobile access

Processed data is also accessible to users through the contentACCESS Mobile application.
